Jakob Dylan Audition
So I had some unexpected last minute work come up last week in Nashville which is when I was supposed to be helping us move out to Portland which was auditioning for Jakob Dylan’s band. Having spent the winter recording in Nashville and then immediately over in Europe touring with $olal, an extra week tagged on here and there adds up fast. I am lucky that my family stuck with me, giving me time and space to dive into learning Jakob’s songs and 4 different instruments and all the harmonies.
I flew back into Nashville, put a rig together and worked all day for 4 days before showing up at Soundcheck Studio’s. There were alot of people there and I was stoked to play with my friend Hags, an unbelievable bassist who I’d just been on the road with.
Anyways, we got in there and worked thru songs on pedal steel and guitar with Jakob and it was amazing. They ended up taking out our friend Audley Freed who also along with Jakob’s drummer Fred (who was as cool a hang as you could ask for and what a fucking pocket!), plays in the Dixie Chicks which stung for a minute, until I realized I haven’t stopped moving for going on a year and a couple months with my girl and dog before heading back out will be well worth it.
Learning those songs, was I feel my final lesson that I’ve learned throughout this incredible transition between Blue Merle and Pictures And Sound and I am forever grateful for it. I’d still love to go out with them later and I got a good feeling it will happen.
Anyways, go buy the album when it hits. Rick Rubin produced it and the fellas played their asses off. It was great playing together, if only for a minute one afternoon in Nashville!
